Senior High School Programme

The Senior High School (SHS) Programme under the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines is a two-year program for students in Grades 11 and 12, typically aged 16 to 18 years. It is designed to prepare learners for higher education, employment, or entrepreneurship by equipping them with specialized knowledge, practical skills, and a strong sense of values and civic responsibility. The SHS curriculum offers four main tracks: Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL), Sports, and Arts and Design. The Academic Track includes strands such as General Academic Strand (GAS), Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), and the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand. Each strand provides students with in-depth knowledge and skills aligned with their interests and future goals. All students take a core curriculum that includes subjects like Oral Communication, Reading and Writing, Komunikasyon at Pananaliksik, Pagbasa at Pagsusuri, Mathematics, Science, Contemporary Philippine Arts, Physical Education and Health, and Understanding Culture, Society and Politics. In addition, students engage in applied and specialized subjects based on their chosen track. By fostering critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and community engagement, the SHS Programme ensures that graduates are prepared to succeed in tertiary education or the workforce, and to contribute meaningfully to national development.
